Steel 45/35 chrome plated piston rod is a high-quality component specifically used within automobile and motorcycle shock absorbers. This chrome plated rod is highly favored for its excellent performance and various forms of durability; motorcycle shock absorbers and to a large extent air shock absorbers being prime examples.

Automobile shock absorbers: As the near core component, shock absorber piston rods must maintain some form of stable working performance under all expected harsh road conditions.

Motorcycle shock absorbers: Steel 45/35 chrome shock absorber piston rods provide the aforementioned wear and corrosion resistance - riding comfort and safety being the end result of this constant, near perfect maintenance of the absorber's function.

    Installation and Usage Guide

    1. Pre-Installation Inspection

Before installation, carefully inspect the solid piston rod for any visible damage, such as scratches, dents, or imperfections in the chrome plating. Even minor flaws can compromise the shock absorber’s sealing system, leading to oil leaks or premature wear. Ensure the rod’s dimensions (diameter and length) match the original specifications of your motorcycle’s shock absorber. Clean the rod with a lint-free cloth and isopropyl alcohol to remove any contaminants.

    2. Disassembly of the Old Shock Absorber

    • Secure the shock absorber in a soft-jaw vise to avoid damaging the exterior.

    • Gradually release nitrogen pressure (if applicable) following the manufacturer’s guidelines.

    • Carefully disassemble the shock body, keeping track of the order of components (seals, bushings, washers, etc.).

    • Remove the old piston rod, noting its orientation and the placement of associated parts.

    3. Installation of the New Piston Rod

    • Lubricate the new chrome plated rod with the recommended shock oil before installation.

    • Align the piston rod with the shock body, ensuring it passes smoothly through the seal head without forcing it.

    • Reassemble internal parts (e.g., the piston, shims, and seals) in the exact order of disassembly.

    • Use a torque wrench to fasten the piston nut to the manufacturer’s specified torque value. Over-tightening can damage threads or distort components.

    4. Refilling and Bleeding

    • Fill the shock body with the appropriate type and volume of hydraulic fluid.

    • Bleed the system thoroughly to remove air bubbles, which can cause sponginess or inconsistent damping. Cycle the piston rod slowly multiple times during the bleeding process.

    • Recharge the nitrogen chamber (if applicable) to the recommended pressure, typically between 150-200 psi for standard motorcycle shocks.

    5. Post-Installation Checks

    • Check for leaks by operating the shock absorber through its full stroke several times.

    • Install the shock back onto the motorcycle, ensuring all mounting bolts are torqued to spec.

    • Conduct a test ride at low speed first to verify functionality. Pay attention to damping response and unusual noises.

    6. Maintenance Tips

    • Regularly clean the chrome plated rod after riding in muddy or dusty conditions to prevent seal abrasion.

    • Avoid using abrasive cleaners or tools that could scratch the plating.

    • Inspect the rod periodically for signs of wear, corrosion, or oil leakage. Address issues promptly to avoid further damage.

    Product Advantages:

Separately protected in strong protection covers, the solid piston rods are kept from direct hit/damage while in transport. Oxidation and long term storage damage is prevented.

Decorative chrome plating gives that all too desired reflective, near mirror like finish. Bright and clean appearing, reducing (both visually and physically) all types of wear and subsequent corrosion.

A true barrier free, non-porous surface- easy to clean.

Toughness against the worst conditions, nicks and small scrapes; chemical use is also well suited to chrome plated rods.
